We made it real by acting it out." - - Peter Coyote RHINO HERE: Manhatten, September 11th. Late morning meeting uptown, my wife with a meeting downtown, noon, at the World Trade Center. Lucky. Neither of us make our meetings. Pay phones, down. Cell phone, down. Airports, bridges and tunnels, closed. Bomb scares. Pentagon attacked. Camp David attacked. Rumors. Anger. Fear. Hundreds of volunteers turned away at hospitals. Coming home I had a new urgency to communicate with as many people as possible; friends, relatives, business associates, etc. An inspiration to me at the time was actor/activist Peter Coyote... http://www.petercoyote.com ...who'd been emailing articles and essays pre 9/11, by a variety of thinkers and doers, encouraging his circle of friends to ponder harder and wider. The Myth Of The Generous Offer I realize that I get in trouble every time I send a mailing which is perceived as remotely critical to the Israeli government position, however, this article is actually about American media distortion of the Camp David agreements, and it's put out by FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) my favorite media watchdog. (No unnamed sources; every assertion documented.) I offer it as a contribution towards understanding, and as an antidote to much one-side-good/one-side-evil analyses I encounter when the subject of 'the trouble' is raised. (It is painful for instance, to acknowledge that bombing of public busses was initiated by Stern Gang militants in the late 30's and early 40's as a way of dispersing Arab populations in the British Mandate.) My position is that both sides have a great deal to be ashamed of, and simple judgements are not useful. The reports here on the TAMA Meetings between Israel and Palestine were new to me, and thought they should be disseminated.
