Search Critic: A Failed Ecommerce Search or Why You Need a Search Expert to Tune Your Search Engine I just ran the search below on www.pcconnection.com.  I was looking for maxtor firewire --- and it found only 3 products!  Search URL that Failed Now I just bought a Maxtor Firewire 160 gigabyte drive from them about 4 weeks ago and I know that they must still sell it so I tried searching for just maxtor -- and I found it -- and a lot of other Maxtor Firewire (3 pages in total) products.  Here's that url: Search URL that Worked Here's what went wrong: In the 2nd search page any search result you go to has not firewire but (firewire) In search results that don't have firewire, there is 1394 or IEEE 1394 which is the official standard for Firewire devices Recommendations: Turn off ( and ) as word characters i.e. they should be treated as spaces Define a mapping from the term 1394 or IEEE 1394 to Firewire since the terms are equivalent The product I was looking for is here.  Great product.  Best external hard drive I've bought since 1980 (and that means ever). 9:42:32 AM  Google It!  comment []   IM Me About This
