A surfeit of rights - Howdy friends and neighbors.  Does it seem like people these days have too many rights?  Well then read this and see if that warms the cockles of your heart.

Grab a pick axe boys - if you want to dig a ditch you've got to break a sweat.  And if you want to make a movie you've got to "clear rights" as this Jeffery Rosen article in the New Republic online reminds us (registration required).  Ditch digging is a lot easier by the way.

Governor Jeb Bush is not a trademark lawyer - in fact he's not even a lawyer.  So why would he write a letter to the PTO on behalf of Baccardi?  [Pointing to the rear of audience] Yes, you sir in the back.  Uh, no it's not because he likes rum.  Okay, no one knows. Well, then remember to click here for all of your trademark law needs, including the scoop on this imbroglio.

Back from PopTech and reading the reviews - here's a Wired Mag account of events.  I met the author of the piece (Katie Dean) at the first day's lunch and was, of course, interested to see what she would say about the event.  One of the great things about PopTech is that the small town venue requires you to mingle with the attendees.  At the table next to us on that first day was the Governor of Main, Angus King.  Impressive guy, who totally grasps the importance of technology and its importance in the education of children.  Too bad he's term-limited from running again.
