Adventures in Technology: Episode #3 part IV.
Steph attempts to add a Nomadix Gateway to an 802.11b WLAN – the saga continues.
The Internet Tech support guys fixed the cable modem's configuration so that it recognizes static IP addresses. To verify this, we hooked my laptop up directly to the cable modem and assigned the static IP address to the laptop. And voila - my laptop and network synched up successfully and I could surf with my static IP. Big Hurdle hurdled!!!!!
So now we take the plunge and see if we can get my computer, the access point, the Nomadix box, and the cable modem working together.
- Blinky lights on all machines are blinking green in unison. Means everyone is talking to everyone else. Yea!
- My laptop gets an IP address servered up by the Nomadix box. Good...
- But I can't surf - keep getting page not found. sigh...
John ponders the next step. Notes:
- The Nomadix box was supposed to supply a little screen asking me to log in. It didn't.
- So, John forced my authentication by hardwiring in my Mac address to somewhere (?)
- Web pages take forever to come back with "page not found"
- John searches the documentation.
- John is going to do something that may require us to reconfigure the Nomadix box if it fails. The box requires two IP addresses - one for the network side and one for the subscriber. It is not clear just what is required for the subscriber IP address.
- We just tried giving the subscriber IP address as the static Network IP address. No dice...
- It's time to call Nomadix or Chris...sigh..
John says :We're really close this time! I ask: Why are these things never ever easy?
