Well - after one of the longest layovers in recent history, I have finally arrived in Grand Junction.
Mei-Ling, as usual, even after all of the stress of the past month, looks great.

Well I'm still in the Salt Lake airport pretending to be Mrs. "Ski Boy." I couldn't get on the 6:30 PM flight to Grand Junction. So now I'm here till 10:00 PM. This makes for 6 1/2 hour layover. ugh...
I sense that the "Lord of the Rings" DVD is in my immediate future.

Lately, I've been somewhat obsessively listening to the 1999 remastered recording of Benny Goodman's landmark 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall. I just have to say that Harry James is THE BOMB - his solo rides on Sing, Sing, Sing and Bei Mir Du Schoen are so hot. He lets it rip and ride and his technique is flawless. No one plays trumpet like that anymore.
Gene Krupa is also pretty darn impressive. It's hard to believe that anyone was playing drums like than in 1938 - he'd blow away any rock drummer today. It's funny though - what I like best is his THUMP THUMP THUMP on the base drum. He's just so full of chutzpah. What a player.
Those guys could swing.

Espied last night at the Bear Tooth by myself, Peter, and Alix - soon to be ex-governor Tony. This is what I love about Alaska - the governor and his wife, with absolutely no entourage, eat with friends in a hip restaurant just like the rest of us.
I do have to say, that I'm having a tough time envisioning Frank The Bank as a frequenter of the Bear Tooth...

Here I am in the Salt Lake airport Delta Crown Room posing as "Mrs" Ski Boy so I can avail myself of his lifetime Crown Room membership. It's such a thrill being Mrs. Ski Boy - although I do note that I do NOT seem to have a large rock (or any rock for that matter) on my left ring finger. Hmmmm....
I'm on my way to Grand Junction - Dad's wake is on Saturday. I am toting a suitcase loaded up with salmon and Dad memorabilia.
