After Vince left Subic Bay yesterday, he sort of disappeared from sight for over 24 hours. However, at 3:52 PM, he resurfaced. His status showed him leaving - are you ready for this?
The Anchorage Sort facility.
Unfortunately, the news may not be as exciting as it seems. You see, Anchorage is the US hub for all outgoing and incoming Asian shipments. My bet is that Vince got put on a plane to Memphis, will get sorted yet again there and then sent back up here. I wish Vince was charging all of this to my frequent flyer number. And Poor Vince, he was here in Anchorage. At the airport. A mere three miles from our house. He was jumping up and down in the cargo hold yelling, "Wait! Wait! There's been a mistake! I'm supposed to get off here!"
Peter suggested that since Vince is Chinese, that we might want to consider another name. Well, when I was a very little kid, one of my favorite books was The Story About Ping. Ping was little Chinese duck that worked as a fish diver. So maybe, Vince should be renamed to Ping. And Ping would be very cool since it's also a widely used term in the networking world.
It's looking like Vince may morph into Ping.
While searching for a good picture of Ping, I ran into this Slashdot review of the book. Here's the preamble to the review (the review itself is hilarious from a techie point of view):
Doc Technical, one of our highly trained book reviewers, has submitted for us Marjorie Flack, Kurt Wiese's book The Story about Ping. A rare technical manual, this is one of the few computer books in the field in which the illustrator is as important as the author. To truly understand the glories of Ping, click below to read more. Yes, we know it's on Amazon. They stole it from us. Or Doc provided it to them.
This makes it sooooo official. My new laptop's name is most definitely Ping!
