All at once, we're deep in the midst of Breakup - the Alaskan version of Spring. It has been very very warm: mid '40's for the past three days. The snow is melting like mad. As a result, the roads - even major thoroughfairs (actually, they're the worst) are giant puddles of water, slush, snow, and dirt. A charming mixture. Henry II is a total mudbomb.
The icing on the cake was today's torrential downpour with the temperature at 35 degrees. It doesn't get much uglier than that.
I truly despise Breakup. The only thing worse than Breakup, is the four weeks following breakup. The snow is all gone. The mud has dried up. All we're left with is brown road grit blowing in the air and another two weeks until the leaves come out. It is truly Alaska at its worst.
