The Ski Boy was in heaven today - or as close to heaven as you can get on earth (at least for a Red Sox fan). He attended the Red Sox home opener.
This was more than your usual home opener: This was the unfurling of the championship banner. This was the distribution of the rings. All of this in front of the Yankees. It doesn't get much better than that.
I must have received ten phone calls today from Peter - starting at about 8:00 AM our time - Noon, Red Sox time. I got bulletins from Kenmore Square. I received live commentary on the banner unfurling and the throwing of the first pitch. I heard the Take me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th Inning Stretch.
Peter, Pooh, and Jeff (Peter's brother) had a fantastic time. Definitely one of those once in a lifetime events - or at least once every 86 years.
Here's a postage stamp picture from Peter's cellphone of the banner unfurling. It's not the clearest picture but that's o.k. It shows that Peter was there and that's what counts.
