The Lagoon ice went out today - sometime between 8:00 AM and Noon. When I left for work this morning, there was still a very big chunk out there. When I came home at Noon to take the Clemster for a stroll, the ice was completely gone. Not even an ice cube!!!!
And our winner in the 4th Annual Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic is - drum roll please - Cory Gish!!!!
Cory is a first time Lagoon Classic entrant and of course now he's a first time winner!!!!
Cory's name will be inscribed on the Lagoon Classic Trophy - wait - we don't have a Lagoon Classic trophy.
Cory will receive a $25 dollar gift certificate from Amazon.
The weather has been absolutely amazing. That's all anyone can talk about. We're all stunned and agog. We're wandering around in shorts, t-shirts, flip flops wondering if we've all been teleported to some alien planet.
Yesterday's official high was adjusted up from 67 to 70 degrees. That's the first time that 70 degrees has ever been recorded in April in Anchorage. Today's official high still hasn't been posted. As I type at 9:30 PM, it's 65 degrees. Four days ago, that was the warmest temperature ever recorded in April in Anchorage. Now it's old hat.
Anyhoo, below are the final standings. Below that are a few pictures of the Lagooon taken an hour ago (8:45 PM). It is an absolutely gorgeous evening.
