Been a bad two days on the technical front.

As you can see from the post below which is currently sans the photograph of Clemmie's rainbow, I can no longer upstream photos to the Userland server. Userland upgraded the Radio blog client from 8.1 to 8.2 and had a bit of a blip - the photo upstreaming seems to have gone kerplooie. Hopefully, they'll get it fixed soon.

On another front, ever since Ping inadvertantly hibernated about a month ago, he's been spontaneously rebooting - always after he's been sitting idle for about 30 minutes. Hibernation is evil, evil, evil. I thought I had it turned it off, but evidently not. And so after much angst but no time, I finally grabbed a few minutes last week and did some research. I discovered the event viewer. I pawed my way through event logs and very quickly discovered the problem - Ping has a bad block on his hard drive - a very bad thing. My guess is the hibernation engendered a disk drive head crash. And there is no way to fix a bad block - the only recourse is a new hard drive.

So, I ordered a new hard drive, and an enclosure - a little box that you can slip the laptop hard drive into and then hook it up to your laptop via a USB cable. My plan was to use Norton Ghost to do a byte for byte clone of Ping's hard drive to the replacement hard drive. I would then send in Ping's hard drive to HP for probable replacement. Perfect setup!!!!

Yesterday my enclosure and hard drive arrived. So, I excitedly hooked everything up and then kersplat. The enclosure was flawed - Windows immediately disabled the USB port because of a power issue. And then the hard drive didn't even spin up. It was DOA.

sigh...

I have to return both the hard drive and the enclosure and then wait for the replacements to come in. This will take at least ten days. And every day I wait is a day that Ping's hard drive could really give up the ghost. I may try for a cheap interim solution to tide me over. I am definitely unhappy. Oh well....

Two weeks ago, on the evening of August 30th, there was an absolutely gorgeous rainbow. I was in my office, blogging about Clem's death and of course, sobbing. While I was in the midst of sobbing and blogging, Peter called from the bedroom, so I went running down the hall and we looked out the window and saw the most gorgeous intense rainbow. Peter said it was Clemmie's rainbow - and I just started sobbing more. But I did manage pull it together to get a few pictures. As I was downloading the pictures, Scott im'd me and said "There's the most amazing rainbow to the west". He then said "it's Clem's rainbow". That was so sweet and of course, I started crying yet again.
