Thursday evening was our 3rd annual Christmas Fondue Dinner Party - and it was a literally a blazing success. I think that the drama of almost burning down the house greatly adds to the overall party experience. Next year's party will have a tough time topping this year's event. All ready, phrases such as "flour explodes" and "more baking soda" have become a part of our lexicon.
But the party wasn't all about pyrotechnics: the fondue was great (I tripled the amount of kirsch in the cheese fondue - highly recommended for a kick butt cheesy experience), Peter's ceasar salad was exquisite as always and the piece de resistance was Joe and Mary's desert plate. Homemade biscotti and butter cookies on sticks, strawberries, and bananas - all for dipping into either chocolate or an amazing sabayon. Joe also clued us into the most amazing thing - dipping biscotti into red wine. Absolutely incredible. Wow!
Now for some pictures!
The table.

Digging In!

The Fire. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do it justice. It was an aggresive strong little fire - as it turns out the sterno we were using was meant for very large chafing dishes. Not little fondue pots. Even though that sterno was located right next to the fondue pots in the store! Anyhoo - hot fire, very difficult to extinguish and there was real concern that fire would hit the table runner and take off.

Linda steps in!

Peter heaps the baking soda on the fire. Finally, it goes out!

The Desert Plate.

Linda and Mom (who looks absolutely smashing in Linda's glasses).
