Something dawned on me during this visit to Winfield: on both sides of my family - Thompson/Barnes and Keslers, I'm the only one that regularly visits Winfield. I'm usually down here once a year on college alumni business.
Well, the subsequent realization was that if I'm the only regular visitor, I have an awesome responsibility to the family members who are buried here. So, with that in mind, I spent a few hours this afternoon cemetery hopping. Grandmother and Grandfather Kesler are buried in the Winfield cemetery and Grandmother Thompson is buried in the Oxford Cemetery. Prior to my outing, I stopped by the local florist and picked up a few simple flower arrangements. Fortunately, the florist is totally hip to the whole placing flowers on the grave site thing and she gave me tips and little croquet wicket like things to hold down the flowers.
I had a great time doing the cemetery rounds. I know this is odd, but I like cemeteries. Especially the Winfield and Oxford cemeteries that have been around for over a 100 years. It's a wonderful way to access history and people's lives.
I also admit that I did a geocache both at the Winfield cemetery and the Mt. Vernon cemetery which a wonderful little cemetery way out in the sticks sort of halfway between Winfield and Oxford.
Here are Grandmother and Grandfather Keslers' graves. I realized two things - I need to get two batches of flowers - one for each of them. One bunch doesn't really bridge the two graves. The other thing is that I'd like the floral arrangements to be a bit more - not too much, but just a bit. I'm a rookie at this whole thing, so it will probably take me a few times to get it right.

Here's Grandmother Thompson who is buried in Oxford.
