Free Market Evil Paul Graham: Better Bayesian Filtering. [Hack the Planet]
This is an update to my previous post entitled "Bayesian Spam Filters." Paul Graham (the author of the paper I had read) has written a follow-up detailing some changes he's made to improve his filter. The post includes this mind-blowing quote, referring to commercial filters run by ISPs: "I'm not optimistic about filters that work at the network level [13]. When there is a static obstacle worth getting past, spammers are pretty efficient at getting past it. There is already a company called Assurance Systems that will run your mail through Spamassassin and tell you whether it will get filtered out."
Oh, so evil. God bless the free market, yeah? There's room for all kinds of folks. Putting them out of business is a moral imperative.
