I thought this reference to an article in Harvard Business Review sounded familiar:

Careers: Personal Branding and Expertise. Is outstanding performance born or made? I just read a fascinating article in the July-August 2007 Harvard Business Review about what makes an expert. . . [Fast Company]

(Hint: expertise comes from experience.)

So, the same idea was covered in Scientific American last August, in The Expert Mind:

The preponderance of psychological evidence indicates that experts are made, not born.

Seems there's still hope for dunces like me if we just apply ourselves.
