Some folks (in other countries, of course) are planning for the impact of climate change in the long term:

In New Zealand councils begin grappling with climate change induced sea level rise and immigration. In a move that will affect urban planning and new development, Kiwi regional and district councils are starting to address the concept of 'planned retreats' from housing, roads and other infrastructure along low-lying pieces of coastline, says a Wellington analyst. stuff.co.nz

This planning will become helpful as New Zealand becomes a destination for Climate Change refugees from other Pacific islands.... [Archinect.com Feed]

They're talking a rise in sea level in meters—that's enough to put some South Pacific atolls completely underwater. And apparently there was a conference on  sea level issues in Tonga recently; that's where I plan to retire some day. So when I go shopping for  some acreage there, I'll be sure it includes  land  more than 20 feet above current sea level, and put the house there.
