On that note - any Australian who wants cheering up, just look at the Commonwealth Games medal tally. Australia currently has 60 gold - vs 39 for England, and 22 for Canada and India respectively.

Apparently if we sent NSW and QLD teams to compete as individual states, they would be coming 2nd and 3rd.

This is even more amazing considering Australia has less than 20 million people. Adjusting the medals per population for the top 5 countries, the Gold Medal tally becomes (assuming they all had 20 million people - original tally in brackets):

  • Australia - 60 (60)
  • Canada - 14 (22)
  • England - 13 (39)
  • Cameroon - 12 (9)
  • India - 0.5 (22)

Aussie, aussie, aussie - oi oi oi!

Commonwealth Games commentator talking about the Australia vs Trinidad & Tobago rugby sevens: "Trinidad & Tobago are expected to win more friends than matches over the next couple of days."

(the score was 60-0 or something )
