Wired 10.09: Hacking Las Vegas: "The $100 bills are another matter. This is an airport; they can drag me to a windowless room in the basement and handcuff me to a chair. They can confiscate my stash, call in the DEA, FBI, and IRS. It will be up to me to prove that I'm not a drug dealer. To customs agents, $100 bills smell like cocaine. In reality, I'm a writer, with six pulpy thrillers under my belt, but today I'm on the scent of a real life story even more high-octane than any of my fictional jaunts. I'm ferrying money for Kevin Lewis, one of the best card counters alive. He's taking me back to his glory days when he ran a card team that hit Vegas for millions."
What an awesome article. I loved every word! Interesting characters, well written and just the kind of stuff I like to read. Is card counting cheating? I don't think so. The casino wins by the odds so why shouldn't you?

The ServerSide has a new interview with Marc Fleury. Normally these Tech Talks are full of marketing drivel (except Rickard's of course) but this one is quite good. I'm very glad to see Marc seems more relaxed, rational and calm at the moment - this is very good for JBoss!

James had some interesting thoughts yesterday.
Mental notes:
- try to use JellyUnit to write a web application test suite for JIRA - we're planning to use Latka or maxq but this seems a cool option. Are there any examples of this? I can't find them. I'm guessing I need to integrate JellyUnit with HttpUnit and JUnit somehow?
- try using Maven and Reactor to replace CruiseControl. This would then run the above web app test suite, combined with our existing backend unit test suite, against JIRA hourly on 5 to 10 different containers. Wicked.
- try to use JellySwing to rebuild another version of ThinRSS - a comparison between the two alternatives would be cool!

I knew it was too good to be true! David admits where all those hits came from! This explains why I was temporarily more popular than Ray Ozzie and running neck and neck with Mike who had a link from Winer yesterday.
I thought my ranking was on fire because of being 'Winer-ed' (like Slashdotted?) - and it was in part - but more so it was because of my link to SMTSFLSH2.swf. (Look at the referers - it's scary how many people searching Google for it come to me!)
So here was I thinking people liked ThinRSS when really they were just looking for porn. C'est la vie.

The Mind Electric has put up some Glue benchmarks. Nothing really unexpected here, but wow. Apache Axis has a lot of catching up to do. Glad to see Glue keeps up with .Net too. As I always say, if you're doing Java SOAP, you should be using Glue.
