Fired up folks
Folks are getting fired up for Dean. This was in the comments on the AmericansForDean.com software project. Creative - so I thought to post it on Mediaburn. By Marilyn Klein:

I penned a few verses to The Battle Hymn of the Republic, which our Dean contingent sang as we readied ourselves for the Evanston, Il. 4th of July Parade. We'll also use it as our opener at the Aug. Meetup. If some of you would like it for your events, here it is:

WITH DEAN WE'RE MARCHING ON

(Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic)

Our eyes have seen our country heading down a wrongful track? An economy in ruins, all relations out of whack. From depression and disunity we'll TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK ! With Dean we're marching on!

Refrain: Glory, glory hallelujah. Glory, glory hallelujah. Glory, glory, hallelujah. WITH DEAN WE'RE MARCHING ON !

Forget about the tax cuts when our states and cities bleed, When it?s jobs and education, medications that we need. Let the classes, genders, races, young and old of every creed Unite in marching on.

Refrain:

The war was a disaster for Iraq and us as well. Our position as a leader in the world has gone to hell ! Once again throughout the world be heard our freedom's mighty bell ! WITH DEAN WE'RE MARCHING ON!

Refrain:

Ottmar Photo in Spokane
A picture named Spokane1.jpg

Photo from our show at the Met Theater in Spokane, WA. I believe Canton asked a stranger in the audience to snap a few pictures - w/o flash of course!! He did this a couple of times and no one ran off with his camera.

Iraqi Antiquities
First we heard that everything was looted from the Museum in Iraq. Then we heard a only few thousand items were missing. Then I heard it was over 10,000.

If we had better planning, a relatively small number of troops could have prevented the years of police work now underway (and preserved World Culture at the same time.) The National Library was torched there as well.

'One in 10' Iraqi treasures looted. 'One in 10' Iraqi treasures lootedAt least one in ten of the objects in Iraq's national museum are missing, its director has said. Emerging Sixth Estate? From Blogs Around the World
Povero Formenti....

Adesso dovrà aggiornare il suo sito, non più Quinto ma Sesto stato....chissa a quanti si fermeranno nella corsa all'ultimo slogan...

ciao

Beppe

The Emerging Sixth Estate.

In this essay, Dr. Elwyn Jenkins, the guy behind Microdoc News, argues that a sixth power is emerging, the blgosophere. Here is the introduction.

An emerging sixth estate in Global governance and influence is arising - the blogosphere. In this article I argue that case for the blgosophere being an emerging sixth estate rather than being an extension of the fourth estate - mass media. Some of you are perhaps sniggering and questioning "Blogs a power? Those personal journals that contain personal thoughts, journals about looking after kids, and personal biased crap?" Yes, these personal journals are becoming a real influence in global governance.

And what about the five other powers governing us?

What I am proposing here is that the blogosphere is an emerging sixth estate. World governance is today dominated by political parties (the first estate), labour organizations and unions (the second estate), economic powers (the third estate), mass media (the fourth estate), and emeging from these estates of power are the non-governmental organizations (the fifth estate) which promote people of the world to join forces in cross-national interest-centered power.

And smartmobbers will certainly agree with Jenkins's next statement.

The emerging sixth estate is worldwide and at present has about 3 million people participating. The sixth estate has power to modify core content in search engines, incluence formation of opinion, publicize the plight of individuals, and be critical of governmental and other power centers. While one blogger can be closed down, it would be indeed difficult to close down the blogosphere. And because of the way the ecosystem works, if a single blogger was closed down, the blogosphere would take up the story, particularly if the action was taken by a government to the detriment of an individual.

What do you think? Feel free to post your comments here because Dr. Elwyn Jenkins -- strangely -- doesn't allow direct comments on his site. But be sure he'll read them.
