38 years ago tomorrow Daughter and I arrived in Anchorage in a 1965 model of the above red bug!
We had been on the road from Denver for 10 days. We had driven through Yellowstone, through Montana via Butte and Missoula, through Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where loaded logging trucks passed us going up hill even though I had the gas peddle to the floor, then north into Canada, and to Prince Rupert where we caught the ferry to Haines, AK.
When we left Denver, I decided we needed something of a man along on this long trip, so Daughter and I named our red VW bug Henry.
We have always wanted another Henry ever since he met his untimely demise. This fall SB gave Daughter one for her B-day! It sports license plates that read Henry 2.
Thirth-eight years later, Daughter and I both agree that the decision to come to Alaska was a great one. We are celebrating tomorrow night with dinner here.
