100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

For Ira Einhorn, a fate worse than death. The '60s-era icon claimed shadowy intelligence agents were behind the 1977 murder of his girlfriend, Holly Maddux. The jury disagreed. [Salon.com]

Good article on the Einhorn case.

The Ketchup Song

CNN.com - 'The Ketchup Song': The next 'Macarena'? - Oct. 18, 2002 [Daypop Top 40]

Doesn't measure up to my all-time favorite  "I Wish I Was An Oscar Meyer Weiner" - one of those songs that stays with you like a toothache.

Saturday musings

Lazy Saturday here...a little dreary outside, looks like rain later.  I'm so tired of being sick.  Three weeks now this cold/flu has been dragging me down, and it's cost me three days in the hospital (haven't received the bill yet),  9 days of sick time, approximately $250 at the pharmacy  and I STILL feel like crap.  The meds are wearing me down, winding me up and destroying my regular sleeping pattern.  At least the soup was good.....

We went to pick up "Brotherhood of the Wolf" last night, but Movie Gallery didn't have it in stock (WTF), so we rented "Changing Lanes".  Good flick, though it started out a little slow.  Basic story of young lawyer struggling with a moral decision.  Does he please himself? His wife? His father-in-law? His girlfriend? The judge? The recovering alcoholic?  I thought Samuel Jackson did an outstanding job portraying a recovering alcoholic who finds himself on what we always called a Dry drunk in AA...(yes I do have experience).  And it was nice to see William Hurt in a cameo role.....haven't seen him in awhile.  Ben Affleck's always a cutie.

Somehow Scott and I ended up talking until after midnight.  The movie sparked a conversation ranging from tales of past drug/alcohol escapades to the fact that once I thought I was crazy (yes I do have experience).  All in all, it was a very good night indeed.  How can I not love a man who says "You know, I had to consider that MAYBE you ARE crazy..."    ::wink::

I added a few more blog links to this page earlier in the morning.  I've decided I really do like this color scheme much better than the earlier version.  Showed it to Toni, and she agreed.  Which reminds me....this is what she sent to me in email this morning.  Rings alot of truth:

How did we survive?

Looking back,it's hard to believe that we have
lived as long as we have.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat
belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup
truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored
lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on
medicine bottles, doors,or cabinets, and when we rode
our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention
hitchhiking to the ski area as an 11 year old girl!)

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a
bottle. We would spend hours building our go-carts
out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to
find out we forgot the brakes. After running into
the bushes a few times we learned to solve the
problem.

We would leave home in the morning and play all
day, as long as we were back when the streetlights
came on. No one was able to reach us all day.

We played dodgeball and sometimes the ball would
really hurt. We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and
drank sugar soda but we were never overweight.... we
were always outside playing.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made
the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with
disappointment.....

Some students weren't as smart as others so they
failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same
grade.....

That generation produced some of the best
risk-takers and problem solvers.

We had freedom, failure, success and
responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it
all.
