100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

Washington State Fines Man ~$100K for Spamming

From LawMeme:  http://research.yale.edu/lawmeme/

The Washington Post publishes an AP wirestory on the test case under the state of Washington's anti-spam law (Oregon Man Fined For Spam E-Mails). The outcome? Jason Heckel, a resident of Oregon, has been fined $2,000 and ordered to pay more than $94,000 in legal fees. He promises to appeal the fine by challenging the constitutionality of the law under the commerce clause. Previously, the Washington State Supreme Court had determined that the law used to prosecute Heckel was not unconstitutional under the commerce clause (State v. Heckel, Cause No. 69416-8 (June 7, 2001)).

I found a wonderful free tool for eliminating spam called Mailwasher.  Check it out HERE.

You kids play nice now......

Posted from LawMeme.......

http://research.yale.edu/lawmeme/

SearchKing, Oklahoma's premiere parasitic link-farm, is suing Google for tweaking its PageRank algorithm to lower SearchKing's scores. For future reference, the press release itself has a PageRank of 2 out of a possible 10. And yes, higher numbers are better.
For a company in the business of artifically boosting PageRank scores and selling ads whose price is based on the boosted PageRank, this takes a lot of nerve. SearchKing is asking for a preliminary injunction (this marks the first time LawMeme has seen a legal document with a "your ad here" banner attached). The King does have a point: when your "business" consists of shoplifting and the corner store installs a security camera, you're going to go out of business quickly enough that an injunction is your only hope.

Sniper theory

Who Is the Sniper? Blogs Tell All. A dearth of hard evidence about the mysterious D.C. shooter has sparked a mad rush to the Internet, where blogs are bursting with speculation about the assassin's identity. Noah Shachtman reports from New York. [Wired News]

Not sure what the latest news is this evening on the continuing search for the sniper(s), but I heard there were two arrests made today.  I must admit I've been concerned that the shootings seem to be moving south...Everyone has a theory.  These shootings have become a part of our daily conversation at home.  Our latest guess is that this is the work of a couple (man & woman) - a sort of Bonnie & Clyde scenario.  A possibility perhaps.  I only hope whomever is responsible is apprehended very soon.
