It's Now or Never

All she wants is a little respect....

The only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, she has been tabloid fodder from the moment of her birth 35 years ago, and to this point she's done little to demonstrate that she didn't deserve such a fate. A bewildering 20-month marriage to Michael Jackson in the '90s - epitomised by the couple's cringingly awkward televised kiss at an MTV awards show, and Presley's memorable suggestion in a Primetime Live interview that anyone who harboured questions about their relationship could "Eat it!" - solidified a perception of her as a brassy, unpredictable flake. That she married the actor Nicolas Cage last year and the couple separated within four months only made matters worse.

This hardly predisposes anyone to take Presley seriously as a recording artist. But such respect is precisely what she wants - and on the strength of the pointedly titled To Whom It May Concern, which is set for release on April 21, she's likely to get it.

Produced by Eric Rosse, who has worked with Tori Amos, the album is a surprisingly strong statement about all that her life has been and all she would like it to become.

Personally, I can't wait to hear it.  She inherited her daddy's  looks - wouldn't it be great if she was lucky enough to inherit that voice...
