Ukrainian Easter EggsThese Ukrainian Pysanky (Easter eggs) are an ancient form of Ukrainian folk art with a rich history rooted in primitive man's worship of the sun. To the ancients, when an egg was broken the yolk represented the sun and the white represented the moon. Over time, the eggs took on such a significance that they were decorated with symbols and colors representing things mystical and powerful. Upon the acceptance of Christianity in the Ukraine, the pysanky took on another meaning - the rebirth of man and resurrection of God. The history is fascinating; the art exquisite. Gerard found a wonderful site with detailed instructions on how to make your own pysanky. For more of the history, read here and here. 6:45:39 AM comment []
