On DotBlog you'll find a list of Websites to boycott because they are anti-deep linking. Most have .dk extensions which means that the Germans are either very anti-deep linking or the author lives in Germany. Probably the latter. Subversion, I love it. On Scripting News Dave Winer refers to: In Denmark today, a judge rules against a search engine that respects the robots.txt convention, and stops it from "deep linking" into sites run by the Danish newspaper association. As well as saying that the whole carry on is "stupid as dirt" he says opposing deep-linking is an oxymoron - love that word. Examples: military intelligence; ethical bankers; clever clogs!!!

Stayed up too late last night and drank too much wine and lost at chess. It must have been the wine. Email from Sherkin this morning that brought me up-to-date on life on the island. Tourism down, down, down because of the weather but the sales of woolly jumpers are up, up, up. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Nicola's on the phone to Kevin now - she's Kev's sister that lives in Brixton and just bought a brand new MAC with a screen on a stick, Kev's green with envy. We used to be MAC people until Microsoft- biased customers forced a change - yeuch. Maybe I'll mark up a triumphant return to the MAC as one of the ambitions on my CV section (see Writer for hire link to the left). Kev just offered to buy Nicola a copy of radio for her birthday so maybe we're going to expand our little corner of the community a little. Maybe she'll link to me which would be a great boost to my readership.

Kitty and Dan are gone to the library - the poor librarian - it's their only social outlet here so I guess she'll be pestered this summer. All the books are in French which poses a bit of a challenge but it's better than nothing.

CNET news has a message on its site that it's offline for the weekend - http://news.com.com/2100-1023-941685.html - because they're shifting servers due to the announced insolvency of their service provider. Worldcom? Can we expect more the same in the future. Back up your sites guys.

Bravo to Janis Ian for speaking out on the Internet as a medium for music distribution. [Scripting News] I signed her guest book in support - probably won't make any great difference but if we all do it, it might.
