There is only one China. It is a huge country. It has 1.2 billion people, but none has ever elected a president.
Off the southeast China Sea, there is an island, Taiwan. You get your digital camera and your computer from that island. It has been an independent country for half a century. People on the island elect their own president, enjoy freedom of speech and full democracy. Yet, it is the only country in the world that is not a member of the United Nations because China wants to take it and few countries dare to go against China.
Dr. Lin was born in Taiwan and is Distinguished Professor of Physics at Kansas State University.
Full disclosure: Dr. Lin is also my son's father-in-law.
