Conscription If you're old the Federal Government offers you pre-scriptions, if you're young it offers you con-scriptions. This week, after some heated discussion our Congress (but not Senate) voted down the idea of bringing back the draft on a 402-2 roll call. What this clearly means is that we will absolutely not have a draft before November 2nd. If it meant we are NEVER going to have a draft again in any foreseeable future the following bills would not still be rotting in committee: Paul bill to repeal Military Selective Service Act. Owens bill to terminate Selective Service Registration. If the idea of bringing back the draft were truly dead, then a Congress controlled by alleged fiscal conservatives should be equally capable of stopping the now obvious waste of time and money that is put into running Selective Service and registration systems. We would also not have states changing their laws to require SS registration in order to receive driver's licenses. I can already hear what about 216 of those 402 Congressmen may be saying shortly, "Everything's changed after this xxxx attack...." Bottom-Line: The current draft debate is just pre-election politicking and therefore is meaningless. The real debate will start November 3rd --- or whenever the courts and international monitors declare our election properly finished. 10:48:51 PM![]() |
