Astronomical Surface Decorations on Ceramics, India part III In the ancient city of Harappa, there is a ceramic fragment that includes a star burst pattern. Apparently Indus astronomy symbols were put into clay when one needed to refer to time.  We see them used for calender type reasons.  Bengt Hemtun page Indus Astronomy Symbols has some great examples and explanations.
