Astronomical Decoration on Ceramics, Greek part III Well, here's a very nice site - The Beazley Archive with over 67,000 Athenian vases! The search capabilities look pretty good and do bring up a lot of things to look at, or without pictures, look up. Searching for "stars" brings up 21 hits and a few with images. However, the "stars" seems to be a decorative element that looks like a palm tree, fireworks, or a swirl, and not a representation of a celestial body. Searching for "zodiac" brings up Vase Number: 12949, but no picture. It may have signs of the zodiac on it (there is a "?" mark by that description.) However, it is said to have been published in American Journal of Archaeology, 60 (1956), PLS.13-14, FIGS.63-65. (I'll have to dig that up somewhere.) Other searches are not fruitfull...but quite a site none the less. 2:45:29 PM |
