Blackout

Just switched the tv to CBC out of habit since I usually watch The Simpsons on CBUT at this time of day. No Homer—blackout coverage instead. First thing I heard was that Americans are blaming the Canadians and the Canadians are blaming the Americans! Sheesh! My first thought was that it's probably just that stupid Blaster virus. Terrorism was not in my mind at all—uh, this has happened before after all! (Of course I can be smug about all of this sitting here on the other side of the continent. Our biggest power problems are California taking our electricity and then getting whiny about paying for it.)

Local New York coverage at Newsday and the New York Times. Canadian coverage: Globe and Mail

Last week, the state (New Jersey) became the first in the nation to allow prosecutors to charge a drowsy driver with vehicular homicide, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
