Miscellany

§ - Ohio Lines Failed Before Blackout - "Twenty-six minutes after the first line failed, Mr. Gent said, a second 345-kilovolt line in the same area, probably one helping to carry the load from the first failed line, sagged into a tree, causing it to shut down. Trees near transmission lines are supposed to be cut back to prevent such accidents." - Around here PSE is merciless about hacking back those trees, not exactly contributing to the beauty of a neighborhood! I always assumed it was because falling tree branches could knock down the lines but now I see that there's more to it than just that.

§ - Just being picky here - Bill reviews Freaky Friday and refers to Lindsay Lohan making "a terrific mark in her first feature starring role" BUT actually Lohan previously starred in another remake of another Disney classic, The Parent Trap, also a strong performance.

§ - It's All Things Spam - "The party was the result of McQuilliams' stab at an online contest several months ago. While surfing the Internet one day a pop-up ad lured her onto the Spam Web site, where she entered the contest." - Grrrrr! It's this sort of thing that keeps advertisers using those damn pop-ups. JUST SAY NO TO POP-UPS!

§ - Not just a tv plot anymore - Man Is Accused of Poisoning Son's Foe - "Fauviau, 43, is awaiting trial in a jail in Mont-de-Marsan while the police determine if there are other victims and while residents of this town in southwestern France ponder the extremes of parental involvement in youth sports."

§ - Looks a lot like my place, only tidier! - Aaaahhh

§ - An obituary I'm not sorry to see - Idi Amin, Murderous and Erratic Ruler of Uganda in the 70's, Dies in Exile
