Play Ball!       Baseball Notes

§ - A man after my own heart! - Baseball—The Next Russian Revolution? - "Vasya Mizonov, 13, has already collected 300 baseball cards with his favorite players. At the top of the list is the St. Louis Cardinals' Tino Martinez." - Interesting that this item popped up just as I've finally gotten a scanner (I've basically had no income for well over a year so this is a biggie) and can at last get to work on the illustrated Tino Martinez baseball card checklist that I've long wanted to add to my website. Wonder if there's a way to get hold of these Russian kids and send them some of my extra cards? (Hmmm... I think the Mariners have a Russian player somewhere in the farm system. Need to check on that too.)

§ - Almost feel sorry for any FOX series actor who doesn't actually care for baseball but must put in an appearance at all these games just for a shot of them in the crowd while the broadcasters plug their show. (Those seats should go to people who actually care!!!) As a late arrival to the appreciation of baseball myself—I've been making up for lost time with a vengeance—I do remember what it was like to be stuck watching a game without a clue as to what the heck was going on. (After all, every American is just supposed to "know" baseball, right? But I grew up with a football fan for a dad! Maybe he'd watch a game or two during the World Series. That was it for baseball for me.) As for all those folks who left early just to beat traffic, they didn't deserve to have World Series tickets!

§ - Do a little math - In World Series, Game 7 Occurs Much More Often Than Simple Probability Would Suggest
