[img] I have finally released activeRenderer vs 1.4.

The new version packs 3 new features:

  • activeRenderer now renders RSS format files (news feeds) in active outlined form,
  • with activeRenderer installed in Radio, you can now visualize both OPML and RSS local or remote files in the new outline browser,
  • activeRenderer's rendering engine is now accessible as a web service, via both a local URL and a public one at services.activeRenderer.com/activerenderer/render.
Here are some more screenshots of the outline browser: win/mozilla - win/msie - mac/msie - mac/safari). [read more]

Been meaning to post about this for some time, but Dave Winer's recent post prompted me to get on it.

This is very cool stuff. I plan to try it out on the blog soon. I hope that it turns out to be easily applicable to stuff other than blogs, too, because I have a couple of other UIs that could benefit from this use of outlining/disclosure in DHTML.

Has it really come to this? I realize that this was just an isolated incident in a mall in upstate New York, but I fear it represents a spreading attitude in the country that doesn't tolerate dissent. Perhaps there was more to the incident than is reported in this story. If not, however, I'm really shocked that anyone could be so ignorant or dismissive of our vaunted freedom of speech as to eject someone from a public mall for wearing a T-shirt. (So shocked that I'm tempted to say something trite about the terrorists having already won.)

Thanks to jwz for the pointer.
