you might want to take a look at Enkoder from Hiveware. I've run across it mentioned in blogs twice in the last two days (Zeldman's, today, and I can't remember where, yesterday), so I thought I'd pass it along. According to Hiveware: Instead of merely breaking up and printing out a standard mailto: tag, The Enkoder generates a unique and random key and ties that to an encrypted array containing your address for even better protection.
Now, I think it would be more accurate to say that Enkoder makes in impractical for spammers to decode your address. If a browser can render it, then it can be done. In the meantime, though. Enkoder looks to be a pretty solid bit of defense. It is available as a MacOS X app., a command line app. (for many OSes), and a web page. All are free (as in beer).
FWIW, I'm too lazy to worry about protecting my e-mail address. Plus, I've had it for so long and it is embedded in so many archives that worrying about it know would be shutting the barn door after the horses are already out. |
Public access television could get a boost from low-cost Wi-Fi connections if the tests by a Manhattan organization are any indication. [allNetDevices Wireless News] comment [] trackback [] 8:26:11 AM ![]() |
