Mobile Blog Entry One.

Location: Uptown Theatre, Row 12, seat 110

While this entry will not be posted until the morning, I took my powerbook along with me so that I could play games in line whilst waiting to get into The Two Towers. Aside from the fact that it is sub-freezing outside (31°F) and there were countless of nutty LOTR people waiting with us, it's been alright. Tiff, Dave and I were just about the only "normals" in the front of the line. We arrived around 9pm or so, to take up our places with Robin and Debbie and Dan and the rest of the crew who had been there since pretty much time immemorial.

Leslie joined us at about half past ten and is still waiting in line to get into the theatre, but we've saved her a seat. Arch Campbell (of NBC 4) did a TV spot out front of the theatre and there's a decent chance that I'll be in the background. One of the camera crews filmed us as we were singing LOTR carols that Debbie and Robin had either written or pilfered from the internet.

Okay, so most of me wants to be just plain Tom, normal guy, but I always end up doing the geekiest things. Dan and I got Apollo briefly attached to the T-Mobile Hotspot in the Starbucks next to the theatre, and I was hoping the signal might pierce the theatre, but there is no joy in mudville, I'm afraid.

I am very much a two-faced geek. There are times when I love it, and times when I don't. There are many people here who are far more excited about this than I am, some might even go to the distance to say they were obsessed. But that bothers me, as well. What's wrong with identifying with a book? I don't know. It's part of my geek duality. I desperately want what I feel to be affirmed, to be considered normal. And I'm not 100% sure why. Guess I'm just a two faced technology addict.
