Salesmen and other such figures of Christmas. Just a few thoughts on this lovely winter saturday in Virginia... ...went to Myer Emco last night while I was over in Clarendon Market Common getting some repair work done on an iBook that tumbled down a flight of stairs (only the CD drive was obviously damaged, and it was permanently detached. Damn thing still booted! Screen was fine! Unreal. HD was fine for the moment as well.) and needed to get fixed. I told the salesman who approached me that I was in the market for an HDTV and I had about $1000 to spend. What's the first TV he lead me to? A $2500 Sony 34" Widescreen. For the love. I walked out unimpressed, except by the TV that's $1500 out of my price range and a year ahead of where I need to be. I think I'll stick to the $1000 Samsung 30" Widescreen HDTV monitor. Dave and I went over the Four Courts and had some beers and dinner. We're both totally in love with the place. Eamonn and Jimmy run such a great place, and it's always got a few people behind the bar that I know on a first name basis. This morning, I engaged in Strike Force Ikea Shopping. Which, for those that don't know, is the only way to handle Ikea. The idea is thus: generally, Ikea has way too much crap, and it's important to know what you want, find it, and get the heck out of dodge before the lines get too brutal. So, it's best to show up like I did at 9:15a, find the section that has your item (in this case, a TV bench) jot down the location in the self-serve aisles, wander through in case there's anything neat on sale, and then get the hell out of there. This is no easy task. However, I left Ikea with a TV Bench (which is lovely, picture forthcoming) and a DVD rack, as well as some Random-Crap-With-a-Faux-Swedish-Name[dot accent] and did it all in 37 minutes. Not too shabby, ladies and gents.
Put it all together and did cable maintenance. I rock. Today will be Halo with Krempasky and others. Should be a good time. Possibly some Frisbee Golf. And wrapping presents! |
