Considering...

Considering the heated discussion I had with Krempasky regarding the Church at large, I think this may be the sort of thing we need.

That's right, a Plenary Council. Gather together all the leaders of the Faith in the United States and just hash it out. Sure there will be those who are focusing on their cause célèbre, but this is the time to give the people a voice in what happens in their Church. This isn't an internal disciplinary problem anymore, it's something far more serious. Guilt needs to be assigned where it is deserved, and promises to handle these things in the future need to be established.

Now, to Cardinal Egan. The article reads: "Cardinal Edward Egan of New York said he wonders "if this is the time" for such a gathering. "We have other things on our plate to deal with," he said." I'm sorry Cardinal, did we interrupt your golf game? What bigger issue do we have than this?

As for Ms. Pierczynski, I'm not sure now is the best time to be trying your case.

Mike mentioned that in times of crisis, saints arise from the crowd. We can't depend on that. We can't just hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it. We must all raise our voices. Faithful and Clergy, Lay and Holy, and make things right. That means gathering what resources we have, the people in whom we commend the trust of our souls, Cardinals, Bishops, Abbots, Priests and their representatives, as well as authorities temporal, heads of the monasteries and theological seminaries and begin to discuss the problem in the open. This is a cancer within the Church. We must cut it out. There will be damage, but only then can the healing begin.

Hilarious Daemon Messages.

So, this morning, I received an odd email. Apparently, some of the messages on our family list-serv have been bouncing off my mac.com address. What's odder still is that the list is smart enough to notice and keep track (I rather enjoyed this, actually) and then tell you what you've missed. Now, what made me laugh in the whole thing was the following part of the automated email that was sent back to me:
Return-Path: <>
Received: (qmail 32701 invoked for bounce); 7 Jun 2003 19:35:16 -0000
Date: 7 Jun 2003 19:35:16 -0000
From: MAILER-DAEMON@mail1.qwknetllc.com
To: thefam-return-94-@strandfam.com
Subject: failure notice

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail1.qwknetllc.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

This is quite possibly the most polite mail daemon in the history of the planet. Compare it to, say, the Denison University mail daemon, which was downright rude and often didn't even bother to tell you what had happened if a message bounced, it just expected you to figure it out, given the gibberish that was spilled after the bounce notice. Even work's notice is a little terse. This was just downright chipper.

Kind of a strange way to begin the day, that's for sure.
