Guardian: "Troops from the US-led force in Iraq have caused widespread damage and severe contamination to the remains of the ancient city of Babylon, according to a damning report released today by the British Museum."
Pictures of Babylon today. Apparently the soldiers do not realise that Babylon surpassed in splendor any city in the known world in 450 BC.

WashingtonPost: "The White House will seek to drastically shrink the Department of Housing and Urban Development's $8 billion community branch, purging dozens of economic development projects, scrapping a rural housing program and folding high-profile anti-poverty efforts into the Labor and Commerce departments, administration officials said yesterday."

The Center for Corporate Policy has announced the ten worst war profiteers of 2004. They are:
Aegis (a UK firm whose founder was once investigated for illegal arms smuggling)
BearingPoint (the former consulting division of KPMG)
Bechtel
BKSH & Associates (Chairman Charlie Black, is an old Bush family friend and prominent Republican lobbyist whose firm is affiliated with Burson Marsteller, the global public relations giant. Black was a key player in the Bush/Cheney 2000 campaign and together with his wife raised $100,000 for this year's reelection campaign.)
CACI and Titan (Although members of the military police face certain prosecution for the horrific treatment of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison, so far the corporate contractors have avoided any charges.)
Custer Battles
Halliburton
Lockheed Martin
Loral Satellite
Qualcomm

DHS: "U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge announced today that the United States would begin deploying enhanced technology to expedite security checks and immigration processing of pre-screened, international travelers through John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. Further, Secretary Ridge and Dutch Minister of Immigration and Integration Rita Verdonk announced that their agencies will work together to develop an international registered traveler program."
It is clear that in the minds of Ridge and Verdonk 'security' is linked to immigration. Rather strange. Security is a task of the Dutch Ministry of the Interior.
It boggles the mind that Verdonk is willing to cooperate with a man who has said 'the us should not rule out torture'.
Iris scans and fingerprints are part of their plan. "Americans' fingerprints should be added to their passports, outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Wednesday, hoping to include the United States in a growing global security standard but risking a privacy fight at home.
The U.S. government began fingerprinting and photographing visitors from other counties - including staunch allies - after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Most nations cautiously supported the added scrutiny, but Brazil last year retaliated by fingerprinting and photographing arriving Americans, delaying their travel for hours."
Until now the US program has been riddled with mistakes. Senator Ted Kennedy's name ended up on the federal no-fly list.
In future also Americans will be fingerprinted. The success of the previous program is non-existent. It is not about security or the prevention of terror but about the control of America.
In the meantime nothing is done to provide real security and to protect Americans from terror. On the contrary, just as nothing was done against the anthrax killers, nothing will be done to the proliferation and possession of arms in the US. Anthrax, cholera, botulin, and many more toxins can all be bought freely in America.
ArizonaDailyStar: "Two weeks after four Floridans were paralyzed with knockoff Botox, the laboratory that manufactured the botulinum toxin unhesitantly sold its poisonous product to a federal undercover agent over the phone."
