FFII: "The EU Software Patent Directive has been or will be scheduled on the agenda of the Agriculture and Fishery Meeting of the 24th of January as an A item, i.e. an item that is to be adopted without a vote. This was announced today by officials of the European Commission and of the EU Council Presidency at various meetings. The entry is not on the official meeting calendar yet."
BlogsGuardian: "This is the second time that the Council of Ministers has tried to sneak through software patents, using dirty tricks and lies."

So what is this war on terror all about? The purpose of it should be the elimination of terror. Now what do we see? The 'liberating' armies are now employing the same methods our 'enemies' used. Saddam can't torture any longer, but it seems the coalition forces have taken over. Even after all the outrage the Americans and British have done nothing to stop their torturing. And it is not a matter of nationalities here, if the Polish or the Dutch were in Iraq with a substantial force they would do the same. It is the neocon mentality that is rampant nowadays that causes this breach of morality and law in a war that cannot be won, because they are fighting the people now.
AmericanProspect: "While the Bush administration contemplates long-term options for detaining the 500 or so foreign nationals still held at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, it might do well to take a look at the Supreme Court's technical decision last week involving the government's power to detain in the United States those non-citizens whose home countries won't accept their return.
As a harbinger of what the White House is likely to encounter as it continues to assert the power to indefinitely detain foreign nationals caught up in the 'war on terrorism', the Court's jurisprudence is becoming impressively clear."
The anti-terrorism measures are backfiring and are a greater danger than terrorist groups. A new bioterrorism lab at Boston University 'had failed to disclose that several researchers fell ill due to exposure to tularemia bacterium'. We have had the anthrax case, where the danger even came from a government lab.
And what's more, the attack on social security is also an attack on the security of people. It is terror against people, against Americans. A day or so ago, I heard someone stand up for freedom and liberty. That would be a good idea. Freedom and liberty. Americans, go for it.
