Forbes: "Dutch Foreign Minister Ben Bot today warned the US government that if it continued to 'hide' over reports of secret prisons in eastern Europe, Dutch contributions to US-led military missions could be affected, the ANP news agency reported.
Bot added that the Americans 'are on the borderline' in their fight against terrorism. The minister would not say at what point the Netherlands might end their cooperation with the US."

MsMagazine: "Army National Guard Specialist Katherine Jashinski is the first woman conscientious objector to the Iraq war. In a press conference last week, Jashinski publicly refused deployment and spoke out against the war. She applied for conscientious objector status in 2004, but after 18 months, her claim was denied and she was ordered to weapons training to prepare for deployment."

Guardian: "The Republican party was yesterday facing a fast-growing corruption scandal with potentially serious implications for next year's elections after a well-connected Washington lobbyist pleaded guilty to bribing a congressman and other public officials.
The plea by Michael Scanlon is a breakthrough in an investigation of influence-peddling in Congress that could reach top levels of the party.
The scandal threatens to accelerate the erosion of President Bush's control of Congress."

Guardian: "The National Union of Journalists today accused the government of a 'double attack on the freedom of the press and freedom of information' after it issued a reminder to editors about the provisions of the Official Secrets Act.
The attorney general threatened newspapers with the act and the Contempt of Court Act in the context of an allegedly leaked memo, relating to a dispute between Tony Blair and George Bush over the conduct of military operations in Iraq.

This intervention by the attorney general followed the publication of a front page story in the Daily Mirror yesterday under the headline 'Bush plot to bomb his ally', in which the paper claimed the memo revealed that the US president last year planned to attack the Qatar headquarters of Arabic news broadcaster al-Jazeera."

Aljazeera: "Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper has been ordered to cease publishing further details from an allegedly top secret memo revealing that US President George Bush wanted to bomb Aljazeera.
A British civil servant has been charged under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly leaking the government memo."

You see, it's not illegal to plan terroristic attacks on foreign broadcasters, but it is illegal to tell the truth.

Guardian: "Charges under the secrets act have to have the consent of the attorney-general. His intervention yesterday suggests that the prosecution plans to ask the judge to hold part, if not all of the trial, in camera, with the public and press excluded."

Borowitz: "BUSH ISSUES OFFICIAL LIST OF THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR
'My fellow Americans, let's be thankful for global warming, because as these winter months approach, it makes the world such a nice, toasty place.
Let's be thankful to Brownie for doing such a good job, even if he doesn't have it anymore.
Let's be thankful that we live in a place like America and not in a place like China where the doors are really tricky to open.
Let's be thankful that even though my approval numbers are falling, they're still higher than my grades at Yale."
