SaltLakeTribune: "Does the federal government need to know whether you aced Aristotelian ethics but had to repeat introductory biology? Does it need to know your family's financial profile, how much aid you received and whether you took off a semester to help out at home?
The Secretary of Education's Commission on the Future of Higher Education thinks so. In its first draft report, released in late June, the commission called for creation of a tracking system to collect sensitive information about our nation's college students. Its second draft, made public last week, softens the name of the plan, but the essence of the proposal remains unchanged.

Whether you call it a 'national unit records database' (the first name) or a 'consumer-friendly information database' (the second), it is in fact a mandatory federal registry of all American students throughout their collegiate careers - every course, every step, every misstep. Once established, it could easily be linked to existing K-12 and workforce databases to create unprecedented cradle-to-grave tracking of American citizens. All under the watchful eye of the federal government."

Yahoo: "U.S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill.
A 32-page draft measure is intended to authorize the Pentagon's tribunal system, established shortly after the 2001 terrorist attacks to detain and prosecute detainees captured in the war on terror. The tribunal system was thrown out last month by the Supreme Court.

Administration officials, who declined to comment on the draft, said the proposal was still under discussion and no final decisions had been made.
Senior officials are expected to discuss a final proposal before the Senate Armed Services Committee next Wednesday.
According to the draft, the military would be allowed to detain all 'enemy combatants' until hostilities cease. The bill defines enemy combatants as anyone 'engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners who has committed an act that violates the law of war and this statute'.

Scott L. Silliman, a retired Air Force Judge Advocate, said the broad definition of enemy combatants is alarming because a U.S. citizen loosely suspected of terror ties would lose access to a civilian court - and all the rights that come with it."

Welcome to the New Police State.

WashingtonPost: "On the grounds of a military base an hour's drive from the capital, the Bush administration is building a massive biodefense laboratory unlike any seen since biological weapons were banned 34 years ago."
And don't for a moment think this is for defensive purposes. The anthrax attacks of recent years originated from American laboratories. America is the greatest producer of biological weapons. America is building up its nuclear, biological and chemical war arsenal, and the aim is total world domination. It's as simple as that. Official documents have stated this several times; they only call it 'American leadership'.

Madmen who consider themselves above the law, Uebermenschen, are grabbing power. Orwell's book 1984 comes to mind:
"The rocket bombs which fell daily on London were probably fired by the government of Oceania itself, 'just to keep the people frightened'."
Right now, it's Hate Week against Lebanon.

LATimes: "To President Bush, the conflict in Lebanon is more than a campaign by Israel to protect its citizens from Hezbollah missiles. Instead, it is 'a moment of opportunity' for the United States - with the most important target not Hezbollah or even neighboring Syria, but distant Iran."

Bush and Blair are evil personified. They are willing to sacrifice millions of people for their neocon chimera.

AlJazeera: "An international medical charity has said that Israel's promised humanitarian aid corridors in south Lebanon are an illusion and that rockets have landed close to its teams two days in a row."
Israel is deliberately targeting UN posts and aid teams to persuade them to leave the area. If you are committing war crimes and ethnically cleansing a whole area, you don't want any snoopers, of course.

Moreover, this whole Lebanon war in only meant to provoke Syria and Iran to retaliate, so that the US and Israel would feel justified to attack Syria and Iran.
Evil and hell do exist, on this very earth.

Independent: "The media magnate Rupert Murdoch is expected to offer Tony Blair a senior role in his News Corporation empire when he stands down as Prime Minister."

Which means Phony Bliar is going to continue his spin and agitprop from the bastion of the neocon opportunist media tycoon. Don't misunderestimate him, his New Labour is New Neocon.

Murdoch believed that deposing the Iraqi leader would lead to cheaper oil. "The greatest thing to come out of this for the world economy... would be $20 a barrel for oil. That's bigger than any tax cut in any country."
Morons in power, morons in the media.
