Reuters: "The United Nations nuclear watchdog chief warned on Friday against the 'new crazies' advocating military action to halt Iran's nuclear programme and said he did not want to see another war like that in Iraq.
'I wake every morning and see 100 Iraqis, innocent civilians, are dying,' International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) director Mohamed ElBaradei said in an interview for BBC Radio.
'I have no brief other than to make sure we don't go into another war or that we go crazy into killing each other. You do not want to give additional argument to new crazies who say "let's go and bomb Iran",' he said in a documentary, excerpts from which were published on the BBC's Web site in advance."

MiddleEastTimes: "Iraq was invaded in order to limit its oil production and thus keep world oil prices artificially high, a noted investigative journalist reports. 'Iraq's output in 2003, 2004, and 2005 was less than produced under the restrictive oil-for-food program,' writes Greg Palast in his new book Armed Madhouse (Plume). Oil-for-food allowed Iraq to sell 2 million barrels per day during the 1995 to 2003 period.

'Whether by design or happenstance, this decline in [Iraqi] output has resulted in tripling the profits of the five US oil majors to $89 billion for a single year, 2005, compared to pre-invasion 2002,' Palast writes."
'When OPEC raises the price of crude, Big Oil makes out big time,' says Palast, who has contributed to BBC Television and the Guardian newspapers.

WashingtonPost: "The number of violent crimes in the United States rose for a second straight year in 2006, marking the first sustained increase in homicides, robberies and other serious offenses since the early 1990s, according to an FBI report to be released Monday.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Report will show an increase of about 1.3 percent in violent offenses last year, including a 6 percent rise in robberies and a slight rise in homicides, according to law enforcement officials, who described key findings in advance of the report's release. That follows an increase of 2.3 percent in 2005, which was the first significant increase in violent crime in 15 years."

It looks like George is losing it on the homefront as well.

AFP: "Tens of thousands of protestors marched through this northeastern German port on Saturday to show their opposition to next week's G8 summit of the world's wealthiest nations.
Organisers said they were expecting 100,000 people from anti-poverty and anti-globalisation groups to demonstrate in the nearest city to the luxury coastal resort of Heiligendamm where the leaders will gather from Wednesday."

Indymedia: "From the 6th to 8th June, the representatives of eight of the most powerful states from the global north will be meeting in Heiligendamm, near Rostock, Germany. Without any legitimacy, they will be making decisions concerning global politics and, therefore, maintaining the state of the world, which for the majority of us means hunger, misery, war and exclusion. International protests are being organized for months and are going to increase in the weeks before the summit."

As usual there is harassment by the police.
