WashingtonPost: "An internal FBI audit has found that the bureau potentially violated the law or agency rules more than 1,000 times while collecting data about domestic phone calls, e-mails and financial transactions in recent years, far more than was documented in a Justice Department report in March that ignited bipartisan congressional criticism."
WashingtonPost: "The decision by two congressional panels to issue subpoenas to the White House yesterday escalates a constitutional showdown over the Justice Department's firing of nine U.S. attorneys that could end up being decided by the federal courts.
The subpoenas from the House and Senate judiciary committees are the first to be served directly on the White House or its staff since the start of the uproar over the prosecutor firings. They signal that Democrats are willing to pursue protracted litigation to determine whether President Bush or his top aides played a significant role in identifying U.S. attorneys to be removed."

JerusalemPost: "Hamas forces late Thursday moved into the last Fatah stronghold in Gaza City, the compound and offices of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, witnesses and Hamas officials said.
Hamas announced that it had seized many documents, weapons and security equipment inside the two compounds that, when made public, would shed light on Fatah's relations with Israel and the CIA."

CTV: "The situation in Afghanistan last fall was steadily deteriorating, with deep fractures developing in the south and west and the position of President Hamid Karzai shakier than ever before, according to a report prepared for top levels of the Canadian government.
It states that the effectiveness of Taliban suicide attacks and roadside bombs in southern Afghanistan had brought the insurgents increased financial support and boosted recruitment, training, equipping and morale improvements of the Taliban. Pakistan, the Gulf states and Jihad-minded groups and individuals then began lending new support to the then-faltering insurgency."
