LATimes: "A Times investigation of a taxpayer-financed insurance system, based on reviews of scores of cases, has found a pattern of repeatedly blocked claims for treatment of psychological injuries sustained by civilian workers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Some seriously afflicted contract workers have been dumped into indigent medical care programs, according to court records. Many have had to wage lengthy legal battles to win payments for psychological treatment. At least four have committed suicide after returning home from Iraq, according to court records and interviews with attorneys and family members."

Toodle-oo, Tony.
He'll be back soon enough with a vengeance.
News: "Britain joined the US in ousting the Taliban in 2001 because it feared America would 'nuke the shit' out of Afghanistan, the former British ambassador to Washington has reportedly said on a TV documentary."

Journalismus: "United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, said that producing ethanol from foodstuffs would condemn hundreds of thousands of people in the world to death from hunger, Prensa Latina reported.
Ziegler accused the United States, European Union and Japan of total hypocrisy for promoting ethanol production in order to reduce their dependence on imported oil, the article said.
He added that hundreds of thousands of people could die from hunger as a result of producing ethanol from basic foodstuffs like corn. He noted that in some parts of Mexico, the price of corn shot up by 16% as a result of greater demand for producing biofuels."

ArsTechnica: "A new study says that on average, more than half of the ink from inkjet cartridges is wasted when users toss them in the garbage. Why is that interesting? According to the study, users are tossing the cartridges when their printers are telling them they're out of ink, not when they necessarily are out of ink.
Printers routinely report that they are low on ink even when they aren't, and in some cases there are still hundreds of pages worth of ink left.
The study did not measure how much ink is lost due to lack of use, or through cleaning processes."

From my own experience I know that my previous Epson printer did a lot of 'cleaning', which means using up a lot of ink. When I bought a separate (Epson) cleaning set and used it for a thorough clean, none of the cartridges would print, so I had to buy a new printer.
