As My Students Lay Dying

Just posted links to several sites dealing with William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying.  Now unless you're in one of my Pre-AP English classes, that may not mean jack squat to you.  But if you are in one of my classes, it wouldn't be a bad idea to browse the links to see if there's anything on those sites that might help you prepare for the exam over the novel.

Remember you have until May 7th to have read the novel and completed the study guide.

If you're not a part of one of my classes, but would like to play along at home, go to Amazon to order yourself a copy.

Happy reading.  I'll post links for help on your research papers later this weekend.

Body Piercing Run Amok

Personally, I'm happy with the holes I was born with.  More than happy, in fact.  And I've never understood the reasons why someone would want to go punching more holes in their body, for religious purposes or otherwise.

The guy in the picture above had his hands and feet nailed to a cross on Good Friday -- for the ninth time (here's an article from last year).  He wasn't pretending.  We're talking real nails, real cross - must really hurt.  Something tells me he's getting a little something extra out of it beyond getting closer to God.  Some people just can't get through their day without some sharp object piercing their flesh.  Myself, I can't get through my day without a Coke.  Doesn't mean I'm going to drown myself in the stuff, though.  In such things, moderation is key.

So the next time one of your devout friends asks if you want to get nailed over the Easter weekend, get some clarification as to which way the nailing will occur.  You'll thank me later.
