Hitting The Rails And The Skies
It is getting very close to the time when I'll be back in Texas. I made my final arrangements for that today in the form of booking my train ticket to Frankfurt. The major difference between the way I go this Sunday and the way I went a few weeks ago is that this time I'll be taking an ICE train.
ICE train, you ask? Well, that is the high-speed train that they use in Germany. Can get up to 174 m.p.h., though they mostly cruise at around 125 m.p.h. Still pretty fast for a train. That and they have a restaurant on board. Not too sure if I'll get to have breakfast on my train, though, since I'll be hauling a bit of luggage around, too.
Once I get to the airport in Frankfurt, it'll just be a matter of waiting until my flight which leaves close to one o'clock. Then a nice long trip to Chicago. Change planes. Head to San Antonio. If all goes according to plan, by the time I get to San Antonio, I'll have been on the whole trip (trains, planes, and sitting around) for a full 24 hours. That and my body will think it is seven hours later than it actually is. Sleep won't be an option once I get to Texas. It'll be mandatory.
And I know this'll shock some of you in Eagle Pass, but I am very much looking forward to being back, even if just for a week and a half. It's a case of not realizing what you have there until you move 5,500 miles away from it. Yes, I miss Eagle Pass. Now I'm just wondering how much I'll miss Germany while I'm gone.
