When In Germany...
...eat as the Germans do. That's what I've been trying to tell Marcela. Up until tonight she'd only had schnitzel. She's been here five days. I mean, we went to Taco Bell last night, for christ's sake.
So tonight I took her out to Burg Lichtenberg, site of the Burg Restaurant. That's where we had the faculty Christmas party, and a very, very nice place to go out and have a fantastic meal. If you're in the neighborhood, I whole-heartedly recommend it.
Back to what these Germans eat. You may think that's nothing but sausage. But no. When the waitress came by our table to ask if we were interested in any of the specials, those specials included ostrich in a cognac sauce with pasta and mixed vegatables. Marcela's eyes lit up when she heard that, and sooner than you can say "When I go to Germany, I want to eat ostrich," there it was on her plate. Her eyes got even bigger once she had a taste. That and the mineral water. This girl loves her mineral water. It's now officially in her top three meals ever.
For the record, I had beef stroganoff, which ended up being much different and much better than any stroganoff I'd ever had back in the states. Then again, most of that was of the Hamburger Helper variety. But that's so 1990's. I have officially turned the page and now know my stroganoff, damn it. You want stroganoff recommendations, you come to me. I'm the man.
Tomorrow, I take the Mexican girl to have German-Mexican food. Stay tuned.
