Don't you just love finding something unusual? Something dropped or left behind by someone you may never know or never meet? Like a note stuck in an old book at the library. Or a photograph dropped on the floor at the mall. Random stuff that at one time meant something to someone else, but now is just an amusing, sometimes unsettling, detour on your day. Living in the Rhineland, I keep hoping to stumble across something left over from World War I or II. But other than some rather antique looking folks hanging around the grocery store down the road, no luck there.
There's a site devoted to the whole finding of lost things, by the way. FOUND Magazine specializes in collecting and writing about things that got left behind. I "found" the link to this through Lies.com earlier today, and spent the better part of my prep-period clicking through the "finds of the week." One of the more interesting is a note found in a women's restroom at a grocery store. One side has someone's grocery list. The other has their vacation plans. What I would give to have found that particular note.
Or the note where someone, probably a teenager, lists their options for the day. Sad, really.
