Tricks Of The Trade
Do you know how a nurse can check to see if a patient is really unconscious or just faking it?
One easy way is to lift the patient's hand over their face and then let go. If they smack themselves in the face, then they're probably out cold. If they miss, then they're probably faking.
But I have a couple of questions:
1) Why would you want to fake being unconscious? Might they do even more potentially painful things to you if they figure you won't feel it anyway?
2) What do you do if you honestly think the patient is faking it? Tickle him? Whisper "Liar, liar, pants on fire" in his ear? How do you get around this embarrassing situation?
If anyone reading this is a nurse or a doctor, I'd love to know the answers.
