Everything You Need To Know About Religion By Emo Philips

"I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"

"Why shouldn't I?" he said.

I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"

He said, "Like what?"

I said, "Well, are you religious or atheist?"  He said, "Religious."

I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?" He said, "Christian."

I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?' He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" He said, "Baptist!"

I said, "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"  He said, "Baptist Church of God!"

I said, "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?"  He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!"

I said, "Me too! Are you reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?"  He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!"

I said, "DIE, HERETIC!," and pushed him off.

What Is That Thing?

This has been bothering me for awhile now and I'm hoping someone out there in Internet Land can help me.

All over British television for the past few weeks, lots of people are wearing these pins on their chests that sort of look like apples with a green leaf behind them, along with a black button in the center.  It seems everyone has one pinned to their shirt or suit, but no one makes a reference to them.  News hosts have them.  Guests on sports programs have them.  Politicians have them.  Football coaches have them.  The whole friggin country has them, yet somehow I've missed any mention as to what they represent.

Here's a photo of Tony Blair sporting what I'm talking about:

Here's another photo taken on a different day.

Now someone please tell me, what the freakin' hell is it?  What are they supporting, or remembering, or pulling together for?  Is it an apple?  I mean it doesn't really look like one.  Is it something else?  Why does everyone have one but they don't talk about it?  Help!

I've tried searching all over the net, but think about it, how do you even begin to search for something like that?  What do you type into Google to get info on that thing?  I'm pretty darn good at finding stuff online, but I'm at a loss over this.

So, any UK folks reading this... please, please, please... help me get some sleep tonight.

Now This Makes More Sense

Everyone knows I'm a pretty big Radiohead fan.  Some know I can also be called upon to listen to Pink Floyd more often than most (tip:  program your morning alarm to the first track on Dark Side of the Moon - good way to ease into the day).  Makes sense that I'd appreciate one group expressing admiration for the other.

In an article from last week, David Gilmour, guitarist/front man for Pink Floyd, let's it be known that:

""I love Radiohead.  I don't like all of their stuff - tragically, I like some of their earlier things better. I'm 56, with hordes of children running round the place, so life is busy. I don't get many chances to sit down and really absorb whole albums the way I should do, but they've done some very good things. I can see why some people make the comparison. But it's hard to hear what he [Thom Yorke] says. He kind of mumbles, doesn't he?"

That's about as close to a raving review as you'll get out of David Gilmour.  Still, his opinion on Radiohead fits more nicely into my worldview than Avril's two cents ever will.  And then Slash's gushing, while bordering on the bizarre, just goes to show Radiohead's huge influence within the music world, if not on the popular one.
