I'll Shuffle Mine If You Shuffle Yours
One of the best things about having an iPod loaded with thousands of songs is the ability to set the gizmo to "shuffle" and just let it play whatever random songs it comes up with. Depending on how varied your tastes are, you can easily go from country to grunge to rap to rockabilly to baroque to brit pop to jazz to whatever. Frank Sinatra might be followed up with some Frank Black or Frankie goes to Hollywood. You just never know, and with the predictability of most radio stations, a welcome alternative.
Now take a gander at this long list of people who have posted the next ten songs their iPod spits out when set to "shuffle." Some of those folks have way more interesting selections in their little white miracle than I do -- or maybe they're cheating and skipping over the more embarrassing items that appear. You be the judge.
Me? I promise the following list of ten random songs off my iPod is exactly as they popped up:
- "Roses" -- Outkast
- "Backwater" -- The Meat Puppets"
- "Surrender" -- Elvis Presley
- "Mrs. Jesus" -- Tori Amos
- "Loser" -- Beck
- "If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free" -- Sting
- "I Melt With You" -- Modern English
- "What's Going On In Your World?" -- George Strait
- "December, 1963" -- Frankie Valli
- "I Know You" -- Morphine
Surprisingly no U2, Radiohead, or Pink Floyd popped up, even though I have more songs by them loaded than any other bands. Thankfully nothing too embarassing popped up like Britney Spe... ummm, wait. Forget I typed that.
